The new feature allows users to rewind or restart BBC programs on your computer even before the program has finished airing on live TV. Live TV from the BBC can also be ’scrolled back’ to the last two hours to watch.

This function is now added to BBC iPlayer available only on computers. However, the BBC say they will try and introduce it to tablets, mobiles and internet connected TV’s by the end of this year.

Live Restart, as the function is known is apparently to give control to users.
Dave Price, Head of BBC iPlayer comments:

“We all know how frustrating it is when you’re stuck in a traffic jam, or delayed on the tube, missing the critical start of your favourite BBC programme. Live Restart solves this by giving audiences control. With one simple click of a button viewers can skip back to the beginning of a live programme, ensuring they never miss a moment of their favourite BBC programmes.”

This new service shows how the BBC is moving beyond the normal expectations of TV catch up. Live TV has moved to an online destination, so no wonder the BBC has opted to improve user’s online experience. The number of people watching TV online has certainly increased, – an increase of 18% from 2011 makes up BBC iPlayer requests.
